Comanche County
Comanche County has a “Home Town" atmosphere, where  every one knows each other by their first name, and greets you with a smile. The community offers comfortable living without the big city headaches, with a unique opportunity to experience the serenity and fun of small country towns.
Our horizon encompasses 789 scenic square miles of level to gently rolling cropland and rough, broken rangeland. Elevation ranges from 1,580 to 2,220 feet. Cropland lies toward the center of the county, surrounded by nearly 300,000 acres of rangeland.
Like the hearty souls who settled this land,
we keep our feet firmly planted in the present...
yet still remember our past...with a view towards the future.
Comanche County takes the prize for Big Game Hunting. People from all over the nation come to Comanche County to bag that huge Buck or Turkey. You can also hunt all sorts of birds including Pheasant, and Quail.
The Gypsum Hills cover southeastern Comanche County, giving way to the High Plains at the county's northwest corner. US Highway 160 from Coldwater to Medicine Lodge is The Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway.  With red soil, deep canyons, flat mesas, high buttes and cap rock formations this 42 miles is breathtaking.  Bring your camera and explorer spirit and come and experience Comanche County and "life as it should be".
I invite you to come into the pages and see what we have to offer.

Streams, ponds and woodlands lure abundant wildlife. One can often see deer or wild turkey foraging in the evening light.
The exciting news we have been waiting for is out...
Our stunning Red Hills has been nominated as one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. The Scenic Byway is a finalist because of the beautiful rust-red buttes and mesas capped by layers of sparking white gypsum.
We know this area is one of the 24 finalists, and out of these, only 8 will achieve the status as one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. Now it is up to us to vote for our favorite. Details on the process will be posted here in the near future.
Please VOTE for our beautiful Gypsum Red Hills.
To add your vote, please go to www.8wonders.org and find the list of finalists. You must vote for 8 places for your vote to count.  Please let all your friends and neighbors know how to vote also. They do not even have to live in Kansas.  Let's make our byway one of the 8 wonders of Kansas Geography. It may invite exploration in our county and stimulate our local economy.
