Comanche County Medical Foundation was established in 1995 by Dr. Henry “Hank” Scherich as a non-profit foundation with the primary function of building a new health and dental clinic in Coldwater. Dr. Scherich donated the first $10,000 to go toward that end. Several fund raisers, and trail rides were implemented by the Merril Ranch to help make this project a reality. In 1996 the clinic was completed and donated to the county.

The Pioneer Lodge has the capacity to house 25 long-term care residents and the Residential Care wing has 10 units. The friendly staff are at the "beck and call" of the people they care for.
Protection Valley Manor---600 S. Broadway, Protection---620-622-4674 has just went through a face-lift. This project was funded by many private donations with assistance from the Comanche County Economic Development Foundation to receive state tax credits that are tax deductable. The building, receiving much needed improvements and a new kitchen/dining room was completed in the spring of 2009..
