Comanche County is located in southwest Kansas on the Kansas - Oklahoma state line. Citizens are about an hour's drive from larger towns. Pratt, Kansas lies to the northeast, Dodge City, Kansas to the northwest, and Woodward, Oklahoma, to the south.

Highway 160 passes six miles south of Wilmore, through Coldwater, and at the south edge of Protection. Highway 183 passes six miles west of Wilmore, and joins 160 through Coldwater and Protection.

Comanche County Airport (3K8), located just south of Coldwater, has a 3,300 foot paved and lighted runway to accommodate small to medium size aircraft and LifeWatch planes.
