Wilmore is Comanche County's smallest community with less than 60 people. It is nestled snugly down in the valley along Mule Creek in the northeast part of the county. It is a proud community with its own political tradition. If you are interested in a position on the city council, chances are you will be a write-in on the ballot and probably get elected...
Travel Highway 160 between Coldwater and Medicine Lodge (The Gypsum Hills Byway) and you will see a small sign directing you to "Wilmore via Country Road". Turning north you will find Wilmore about 4 miles from the highway. Yes, you will have to venture off the trail a little to find us, but once you "hit the dirt" and drop off the little hill into the valley, you will see that it is worth the trip.
Wilmore is a little protected from the high winds on the open plains as it sits in a "bowl" surrounded by hills. You will notice the elevator stretching high in the sky as if to say "Here I am, you have found Wilmore".

One of the first things you will see is the "Welcome to Wilmore" wall at the end of a line of trees in front of the Wilmore Community Center.
Wilmore has no paved streets and no stoplights, and only one stop sign in town, but there  is also no traffic congestion, or typical city noise. People can sit outside at night and see the stars and listen to the crickets and coyotes.
The Wilmore Community Center, located at the corner of Railroad and Taft, was built in 1998, when Wilmore citizens worked together with alumni of the Wilmore High School and the Comanche County Economic Development Foundation to raise the money and get tax credits to build the new building.
This beautiful building is used for all kinds of community events from family reunions on Memorial Day to Wilmore Saturday Nite Live on the last Saturday of each month from March through November.

The Wilmore Library is also in the Community Center.  Rita Neilson, Librarian, welcomes you to drop in and see what Wilmore has to offer. Library hours are Tuesday and Fridays from 2 to 6 pm.

Wilmore is small, but mighty. With a population of less than 60 residents, it is still keeping the stage alive at the Wilmore Community Center hosting Wilmore Saturday Nite Live.

This variety show gathers guest performers
from across the country the last Saturday of
the month from March through November.
Wilmore City Council or the Volunteer Fire
Dept. serves an evening meal that is always
good food and has served everything from
juicy burgers and hot dogs to a potato bar
with all the trimmings.

Please come to Wilmore Saturday Nite Live,
starting again the last Saturday in March 2010.

The elevator is a landmark in Wilmore that can be seen over the trees for miles around. It is still being used for spring wheat and for many fall crops as well. When it is time for harvest, the town is buzzing with trucks.
Local businessmen and community-minded people sponsored this beautiful mural on the elevator.  The hand-painted mural by Comanche County native Stan Herd, is depicting the coin toss to give Wilmore its name.

Centennial Park is a manicured city park with water and electricity available. Many local residents share picnic lunches in the park all summer.
People are often seen enjoying a fun baseball game on the  ball diamond as well.
Wade-A-While Park has a special place in the memories of people from Wilmore.   The park is located a few miles east of town, but was a favorite place for the neighborhood kids to go fishing and swimming in Mule Creek. Wilmoreites still gather for a hot dog roast and enjoy the company of the neighbors and friends.

Please register at the "mail box" and see who has been there before you.
Wilmore Cemetery is located on Taft Street on the hill just north of Wilmore overlooking the city. Families come every year from across the nation to honor their loved ones who are buried there and reunite with family on Memorial Day. There is always a big pot-luck dinner served at the Community Center where everyone is welcome. Several people have told me they will always call Wilmore "HOME", and look forward to this time together with old friends and family in Wilmore.

Plans are being made for spring and summer activities at the Wilmore Library, and may include a coffee hour for adults with book presentation, a stamp club, free movies, and a summer reading program for children. This years theme is "Make a Splash Read!"  This will consist of water related activities, even have water games outdoors. All activities will be related to story books and other information which will increase the knowledge of their surroundings as well as give them a desire to learn about water animals, plants and fish.

Rita would like to have all Wilmoreites and visitors to the area, stop in and experience some good old hospitality.  She is always thinking of fun ways to inspire people to learn.
The city park is a favorite place to spot deer and other wildlife on a warm summer evening.
